The new Interfaculty Center for Endocrine and Cardiovascular – ICON for short – of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich is planned on the Institutsspange along Feodor-Lynen-Straße in Munich-Großhadern and is located on the same construction site as the new diagnostics project. Together with the connecting bridge between the two new buildings DIAG and ICON, a coherent ensemble is created, which will be perceived as a large form from both the north and west sides.
The prerequisite for the formation of the ensemble is a facade design that is uniform across all buildings, with the same materiality and proportionality, whereby the relationship between closed and glazed facade fields is decisive. A strengthening of the connection is also achieved due to continuous window bands and a uniform height grid.
With the new ICON building, a multifunctional building with, on the one hand, the most flexible laboratory areas possible and, on the other hand, very specific room uses is planned.
